The Siberian one is a rustic cat which developed in the rigorous climate of this Eastern area where he saw centuries since.

Character:

It is a very sociable cat: he gets along with the dogs, the cats, the children. He adapts very quickly to the family which accomodates it.
The Siberian one is pot-of-adhesive, emotional, very communicative, it adores that one speaks
to him. It is also conclusive, it adores being in private conversation with its Master. It preserves a spirit player all his life. It is a very intelligent cat. It can live in apartment provided that it has a cat tree, plays and varied distractions. To be always very soft with its cat; no brusqueness (to explain well to the children and to supervise the young children).
Maintenance:

A weekly brushing is enough, while insisting on the zones where nodes can be formed (behind the ears, between the legs, the breast piece and buttocks).
At the time of the moult, better is worth to brush your companion more frequently to help it to eliminate the dead hair.

Colors:

In this race, all the colors are recognized except lilac, cinnamon, fawn and chocolate.
The subjects colourpoint are not only accepted but they are indicated by a special name: neva masquerade. For them, the standard is the same one, except of course for the dress (seal not, blue not, red not, cream not, seal tabby not… with or without white), and for the eyes which are blue.

How is it made that the colourpoint appeared in this race and not at Norwegian or the hand coon?
That is explained in a historical way. Indeed, after the second world war in the area of Saint-Pétersbourg (Russia), it did not remain much any more of cats in the city.
On the other hand, mice and short-nap cloths proliferated. This is why hundreds of cats were caught in all Russia then sent to Saint-Pétersbourg.
Among these cats, it was to have there coulourpoint mixed with other colors.
It is thus a natural race rich colors!

It is for these reasons that Siberian the colourpoint called neva masquerade was allowed as well as the other colors known as traditional.

General description

The Siberian one is a large cat with hair semi-length originating in Russia, where, in spite of a late international recognition, there exists since centuries. Powerful, it releases from him a show of force confirmed by its round and very developed musculature. It has a chest broad, round, convex, a firm belly. The back is long, slightly round, but horizontal when the cat walks.
The feet are round, broad and powerful. Taking into account its morphology, the Siberian one becomes ripe only towards age the 3 years. The sexual dimorphism is strongly marked, the males being notably larger than the females.
Note: Siberian the colourpoints is traditionally named “Siberian Neva Masquerade”.

Head: in the shape of softened triangle, the head broad with contours is rounded. Of face, the knobs are neither projecting nor prominent. Broad, the cranium, is rather flat. Seen profile, it is slightly rounded and prolonged by a light declivity on the level of the eyes, which leads to a fairly long nose and slightly busqué.

Muzzle: round and strong, the muzzle must be without pinch. The females often have a muzzle finer than the males. The chin is rounded without being in wooden-soled shoe. The moustache is long and thick.

Eyes: large, almost round, the eyes are well spaced one of the other, at least separated by the width from an eye. They are slightly established skew, without to have Eastern expression. All the colors of eyes are allowed without there being relation with the dress, except at the colourpoints which have the blue eyes.

Ears: of intermediate size, the ears broad at the base and are established with equal distance on the sides and the top of the head. Seen profile, they are slightly pointed forwards. With round form at their end, they are covered outside an abundant fur which hides their base almost completely. The interior of the ears is also furnished with abundant hairs. “Lynxes tips” (plumets) are appreciated.

Note: in the kittens, the ears often larger and are brought closer than in the adults without that justifying to penalize them.

Neck: round and short, the neck is strongly muscular.

Body: of long and substantial format, the body has a form characteristic called “out of barrel” due to the roundness of its coasts and its musculature. The back-hand is round and higher than the forehand. The abdominal strap is very powerful.

Legs: of average height, the legs are robust and muscular with a substantial framework.

Feet: large and rounds, the feet show an important interdigital pilosity.

Tail: shorter than the body, the tail is broad at the base then is fraying until a round end. It is provided of an abundant fur.

Wrap and textures: semi-long with long, the fur of Siberian is made up of the three types of hairs: hair of guard, hair of earthenware jar and undercoat. The neck, the shoulders and the back are covered with hairs of thicker and brilliant guard. The flange leaves the back of the head to join the throat. The undercoat is abundant but important seasonal variations are noted between the winter and the summer when the hair is shorter and more dish. The hairs of the belly can curl slightly without this character being particularly required.

Texture differs according to the colors and it must be held about it account in judgement. The color is secondary compared to the type.
